Panama City (Panamá), Panama’s capital and largest city, is widely recognized as the most cosmopolitan city in Central America. Its location near the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, the spectacular and ever-changing skyline and its reputation as an international banking hub contribute to Panama’s status. The tropical sun, nearby natural wonders and islands, easygoing people, year round festivities, modern infrastructure and ample business opportunities attract tourists, business people and retirees from around the world. The contrasting architecture, the melting pot of people and different houses of worship reflect the city’s rich diversity. Panama likens to a revolving door in the sense that visitors are always coming and going. Festivals, particularly Carnival, get huge draws. The total metro population is approaching 1.3 million people. Life in the capital is markedly fast paced compared to the rest of the country. Businesses and skyscrapers are springing up constantly. Though, in comparison to other countries’ capitals, Panama City is a laid-back and fun loving city.
